About Me
My name is AJ Lugthart. I’m an engineer, a fabricator, and an artist. I work in wood, metal, pen and paper, fabric, and any other media I can find. I'm endlessly fascinated by the idea of making things, and above all else, I love learning.
I earned by BS in mechanical engineering at Northwestern University in 2020 and I'm now pursuing an MS in mechanical engineering at University of Colorado Boulder. Through my education, I've learned engineering principles that have extended the reach of my creativity. I also had the chance to work in three different educational shops where I gained valuable skills in fabrication.
I'm now the manager of the Labriola Innovation Hub wood and metal shop at Colorado School of Mines. Along with a team of talented coworkers and TAs, I help students fulfill their fabrication dreams!
In my free time I make art, build furniture, write, and undertake all manner of other projects. Many of those projects can be found right here in this portfolio.
